Cricket Parents: Catching Can Be Daunting for Your Kid - Some Tips...
Transcript:
Catching can be very daunting to start with. And it's all about confidence. So you need to be patient. I have three daughters and they've all developed at a different stage, but to start with, it was very difficult for them just to catch one catch at a very close distance, throwing a very soft ball. Okay.
So make sure that whatever games you play, especially if your child doesn't know how to catch, you start with a softball and take it slowly, okay? Every time they catch a ball, pump them with encouragement. Okay. The more you encourage, the more you encourage them, the better they're gonna feel. They're gonna drop a lot of balls in the beginning and they're gonna get despondent.
And it's your role and your job as a parent to make sure that you pick them up and that you keep encouraging them and let them, let them keep going, let them keep trying until they catch a catch. And when they take that first catch, let me tell you, you're gonna see a lot of joy and ecstasy, okay. So build on that.
Remember, be patient. It can be frustrating, especially if you know how to catch and you expect your child to be able to catch.
Remember, if they've never caught a ball before, it is a hang of a daunting thing. Okay. So, start simple, start small. We will show you some basic games that you can do with your kid and be patient, but make sure that before you begin that they understand that they have to watch the ball, they have to get into a good body position, okay, and that they need to get their catching technique right.
So practice those things first. Get that down pat so that they know exactly what they're doing, and then you can start the games that we will run through in the next couple of lessons. Enjoy.
