The MOST Important Lesson for Cricket Parents

In my years of coaching, there's something that has really, really stood out for me, and it's the underlying factor of why we are doing this online coaching. And that is parental involvement in their kids. I think there's a very big misconception out there that you've gotta get your kid from a young age off to a private coach teaching them technique and all sorts of things, from a very young age.
And although there is a time and a place for that, I think it's really far more important for you as a parent and for your child, to spend time with them, yourself. If you look back, some of us, it's a long, long way back, but when you were a kid, what was the most important thing to you?
Well, for me, and I'm pretty sure it was for most of us, was to get just a little bit of our parents' attention, whether it was mom or dad, we just wanted a bit of attention from them, a bit of time. And most importantly, recognition from them. We wanted to know that we were good enough from them.
And if you didn't get it from them or you don't get it from them, as a child you very soon move on and look for that affirmation and that recognition somewhere else. But I think if we're honest with ourselves, it comes from parents first. So most important for me is getting parents out there involved with their kids, spending time with them.
That is the most valuable thing that you can do with your child, is spend time with them.
Not everybody is gonna become a professional cricketer or professional sportsman for that matter, but you as a parent will instill the love and passion and attitude and commitment to whatever sport or whatever they do. And obviously this is a cricket based website, so for me, you spending time with your kid is the start of their cricket career.
